Project Overview

The Mosallas house occupies a uniquely challenging triangular parcel situated at the intersection of two roads. Initially, the property owners contemplated selling this geometrically complex land in favor of building elsewhere. However, after our design consultation, they were persuaded to develop this distinctive site, embracing its unusual characteristics as opportunities rather than limitations.

Design Approach

The design process addressed multiple challenges simultaneously:

  1. Adapting to the triangular geometry of the parcel
  2. Maximizing natural light throughout interior spaces
  3. Harnessing regional wind patterns for natural ventilation
  4. Implementing rainwater collection systems for sustainable water usage
What we did

Sustainability Features

Wind Utilization

The design capitalizes on the region’s prevailing westerly winds through strategically positioned facade windows. Further enhancing natural air circulation, light ducts were installed between floors, creating a chimney effect that promotes continuous air movement throughout the home.

Water Management

Drawing inspiration from the region’s historical water conservation practices, the design incorporates a contemporary rainwater collection system. Precipitation captured from the roof surfaces is channeled to an on-site storage tank, providing water for landscape irrigation and other non-potable household uses.

This project demonstrates how architectural creativity can transform challenging site conditions into advantages, resulting in a home that is both distinctively designed and environmentally responsible. By blending traditional wisdom with modern sustainable approaches, the Mosallas house creates a comfortable living environment while minimizing resource consumption.
